Committee chairman: 245 high-rise buildings to be torn down in Baku

State Committee for Town Building and Architecture is acting upon the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers dated February 25, 2016 on replacement of old buildings with new ones in Baku, improvement of housing condition of those living in buildings in disrepair and carrying out agreeing of required planning documents required for reconstruction of territories submitted by relevant district executive bodies, chairman of State Committee for Town Building and Architecture Abbas Alesgerov said in his interview to Inshaatchi newspaper.
"Since adoption of abovementioned decision, 60 out of 80 territorial planning documents submitted by local executive authorities of Baku city have been agreed by the State Committee for Town Building and Architecture. This means 245 high-rise buildings or 25,000 apartments with the total area of 2.6 million square meters. Tearing down and evacuation works have already been started. At the same time, tens of high-rise buildings are already being constructed. If this project is implemented at the current pace, it will be successful”, he said.
